Turkey Briefly Opens Border Crossings Into Europe for Refugees

Hundreds of people tried to cross Turkey’s border with Greece on Friday, after Turkey briefly opened its European borders to the four million refugees living on its soil.

Greek security forces resorted to stun grenades and tear gas to push back crowds of mostly Afghans and Syrians, some of whom said they had been given free bus rides to the border by the Turkish government. Turkish state TV, which said checkpoints would be open for 72 hours, showed images of a few small rubber boats being loaded for short trips to Greek islands…
