Razak Brimah confirms departure from Mamelodi Sundowns

Ghana international Razak Brimah has confirmed his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns, according reports in his homeland.

This follows Sundowns’ decision to sign goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse from cross-town rivals SuperSport United on Friday.

Brimah, who played for several clubs in Spain before joining Sundowns, found first team football hard to come by at Chloorkop with the likes of Denis Onyango and Kennedy Mweene ahead of him in the pecking order.

The 31-year-old made just four league appearances last season and has apparently grown frustrated with his lack of game time at the club.

Nonetheless, with Sundowns having signed Pieterse and with Thela Ngobeni still at the club, it looked likely that the goalkeeper’s fortunes would not change.

This has subsequently led Brimah to sit down with the club and negotiate his release, despite having penned a five-year contract with the club.

Brimah is believed to see himself as a regular starter and with first team football not forthcoming, he has confirmed his decision to leave the club.

“I want to play regularly but that was not coming. I sat down with the club and the best thing was a mutual consent deal so I can be happy as a professional,” Brimah told Ghana Soccernet.

The shot-stopper, who was part of Ghana’s 2015 Africa Cup of Nations run to the final will now be on the lookout for a new club with the new season set to kick-off off shortly.

Brimah’s departure though, opens a spot in Sundowns’ foreign quota.

Sundowns now just have Toni Silva, Ricardo Nascimento, Jose Ali Meza, Gaston Sirino, Bangaly Soumahoro, Yannick Zakri and Jeremy Brockie on their books.

However, it is understood that the club were working on getting the New Zealand international his permanent residency papers, which recent reports have suggested has since been approved. While Zakri on the other end is likely to leave the club.
